Gravity is a not-for-profit social organization for young people living with HIV. Our goal is to create a social networking system for positive people in Denver and it’s surrounding areas (such as Boulder and Colorado Springs). We do this through regular social events where people can come and have a good time with others whom they can relate to. The events are rarely centered around HIV… giving people the opportunity to talk as much or as little about the topic. Most importantly, we want to create an environment where people can simply have fun, meet some friends and not feel alone in the process.
Our main demographic are people living with HIV from the younger generations. Gravity currently defines "younger" as people in their twenties and thirties. If you exceed this age range but still feel a strong need to attend an event, please contact us. This group is not about excluding older people. We respect our predecessors and respect those who have died in the process. Gravity is about creating social cohesion among relating demographics.
In the United States, HIV and AIDS have changed dramatically over the last 30 years. People were dying quickly, making it one of the most feared diseases in the world. However HIV treatment has grown by great strengths and now death is no longer the center point of this disease in our country. So as people living with HIV, our health and safety is better than ever. But the stigma is not quite up to par yet. This seems to be one of the major struggles for younger people living with HIV. Instead of our bodies, HIV is now killing off our spirits. We want to change this… or at least provide an environment where someone can have fun, be open and not feel the stigma of HIV.
As a basis, Gravity gathers twice a month between a couple of our favorite hang out places. Please see our Upcoming Events page to see the schedule. We continually look for different ways to host other styles of events in order to mix things up. Any special events off our normal calendar will be posted on the website and promoted through our mailing list.
Gravity's two main hosting hubs are Wash Perk Coffee House and The Tavern Uptown. But occasionally we go off the grid to host other style gatherings and different environments. From bowling alleys, public parks, skating rinks and hiking trails. Any location can be a great destination for an event by Gravity. And we encourage our guests to pitch their ideas for a fun time. So if you think you have a great idea, let us know. You are even welcome to throw your own event. If you need assistance, Gravity facilitators can help you co-host!
